Apparel Designer - Technical Garment
Klättermusen is looking for a curious, inventive, and technically skilled Apparel Designer specialized in technical garments, with a strong drive for innovation and sustainable product solutions. This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of creativity, research, and technical precision — transforming ideas and functional challenges into forward‑thinking outdoor equipment.
You will be part of our Åre-based Design Team, where you will explore new constructions, develop innovative design concepts, and support the evolution of our technical apparel. The role focuses on concept work, innovation, and functional improvements — always with durability, responsibility, and user‑driven performance at the core of the work.
This is a role for a designer motivated by exploration, experimentation, and deep product understanding — someone who can push our sustainability ambitions forward while staying true to Klättermusen’s design philosophy. Being a strong team player is essential, as close collaboration with Product Development, Pattern, Materials, and our external partners is part of the everyday workflow.
What you will do
Innovation & Research (Primary Focus)
Lead research into new construction methods, functional details, and technical garment solutions
Explore sustainable approaches to increase durability, longevity, and performance
Create concept studies, mock-ups, prototypes, and innovation samples
Identify opportunities to improve product performance and circular design
Translate complex technical challenges into clean, user-centered solutions
Seasonal Design Work
Support the Product Development Team with technical solutions when required
Assist with fit improvements, construction ideas, and functional detailing
Provide structured design proposals for seasonal updates
Contribute to wear tests, performance evaluations, and functional analysis
Development Support
Create clear tech packs, BOMs, and instructions
Collaborate closely with patternmakers and with Production during prototyping and fittings
Communicate with factories about construction, sampling, and improvements
Participate in sourcing discussions related to construction and design needs
Internal Communication & Education
Prepare and deliver seasonal presentations to the broader company
Develop educational materials explaining design decisions, sustainability aspects, and functional reasoning
Present research findings, trend insights, and technical innovations
Contribute to internal knowledge sharing around sustainable and technical garment design
Testing & Validation
Collaborate with testers and Customer Service to ensure long-term durability and reliability of concepts and prototypes
PLM
Contribute to maintaining structure and clarity in PLM for innovation and development projects
Travel
This position includes travel to:
Suppliers and factories for development and prototyping
Inspiration trips for research and exploration
Field testing trips to evaluate garment performance in real conditions
What you bring
Degree in Technical Apparel Design, Technical Garment Design, Product Development, Pattern Technology, or related field
3–5 years of experience in technical apparel design
Proven experience working with waterproof / seam‑taped garments (required)
Experience with down or padded construction (highly desired)
Strong understanding of technical construction, fit, and functional outdoor performance
Creative and explorative mindset with a passion for problem solving
High level of organization and ability to structure complex design research
Confident communicator with the ability to present ideas clearly and visually
Experience working with BOMs, tech packs, prototypes, and development processes
A true team player who thrives in a collaborative environment
Deep interest in outdoor equipment and user-centered design
